Voluntary Departure Program: Several members have asked how the VRTIP concluded. The VTRIP process concluded on March 15^th when members were notified of the status of their applications. Of the 40 members who were in targeted positions, 23 chose to apply for the VRTIP, and 17 chose to take their chances, with a number of them working closely with other TEAM members from non-targeted positions on trading places. Over 60 members in total from targeted and non-targeted positions applied for a VRTIP package; 46 were approved. The Company redeployed almost all of the members from the targeted positions who did not apply, but was not able to do so in every case, and in accordance with the Collective Agreement, the Company triggered Article 27 - Layoff. Ultimately no layoffs occurred as an additional redeployment opportunity was found. Seventy-five percent of those departing with a VRTIP package will depart in June, and the remainder later in the year.

Banking Vacation and Overtime Credits: The window of opportunity to bank vacation/overtime credits for this vacation year closes April 30^th. All members, regardless of the pension plan in which they participate, are eligible to bank up to 5 days, or 10 days if age 51 or over, to a maximum of 50 days in total. Banked days are paid out on departure from the Company at the employee’s pay rate at the time of their departure. The next opportunity to bank vacation/overtime credits is February 1, 2019.

2018 Al Cerilli Scholarship: Applications are now being accepted for the 2018 Al Cerilli Manitoba Federation of Labour Scholarship; a $500 award to an MFL affiliated union member who is 35 years of age or younger and is enrolled in a continuing education or post-secondary education program. Members of TEAM-IFPTE Local 161 are eligible to apply. See the MFL website for further details and the application form. The deadline for applications is May 4, 2018.

Union Office Job Posting: TEAM has a vacancy of up to one year for the full-time position of Administrative Assistant, commencing May 28 to June 4, 2018. The position pays up to $45,500 including pay in lieu of benefits, plus vacation and statutory days similar to those available to TEAM members. National Day of Mourning: On April 27^th SAFE Workers of Tomorrow holds its annual Leaders’ Walk in memory of workers who have been injured or killed on the job, and to raise awareness of workplace safety and health. TEAM will have representation at the walk and the ceremony for the new memorial at Memorial Park, Winnipeg.
