Meetings with Political Leaders: Throughout summer we have been busy meeting with all levels of government, across all parties and affiliations, to discuss the importance of our members’ jobs to the Manitoba economy. We have had over twenty such meetings with MPs, MLAs, and City Councillors, and more meetings are scheduled. Its clear from the many discussions that the high-skilled work and training opportunities provided to Manitobans by MTS was, and remains (as Bell MTS), an important component of our local economy.
Many of our political leaders were surprised to learn that the middle-class jobs represented by TEAM have been reduced by over 30% (almost 400 jobs) in just over two and a half years. A full report on our discussions with elected officials will be presented at the TEAM Annual General Meetings in October and November.
-
Workload and Overtime: Members have raised concerns about excessive workloads and their rights to claim and be compensated for the extra hours worked as a consequence. When we consider the significant downsizing detailed in the previous paragraph, its not surprising that workloads have continued to rise. When extra hours worked, whether in the office or at home, are not booked or documented, senior management could be making downsizing decisions based on inaccurate and incomplete data regarding the true effort required on a project or to provide a service.
Booking your additional hours worked (overtime) communicates the true effort, and will result in better assignment of resources and a fairer distribution of the workload. For a comprehensive explanation of your rights around workload and overtime click here.
