Re: TEAM Update
BCE Purchase of MTS
We have received a number of queries from members asking when TEAM knew of the BCE offer to purchase MTS and what this means for us.
TEAM was advised of the news 5 minutes after the news was made public, 3 minutes before employees. About 15 minutes prior to being informed of the transaction, we were informed that there was going to be a “significant announcement” but no details were provided.
The office, with help from the IFPTE and legal counsel are currently analyzing and assessing what the sale means to the Union in the long term. In the short term, nothing changes for us as we focus our attention on reaching a fair and equitable Collective Agreement.
Negotiations
The Negotiating Committee met with the Conciliator and the Company on April 20th and 21st at which time MTS issued the 90 day notice to terminate our Collective Agreement.
We have made little progress in these negotiations, however we are hopeful that over the next three days of conciliation, May 4th to 6th, we will see some progress especially as we move to monetary items.
By mutual agreement, the earliest a strike or lockout could now take place is July 1st.
