Re:             Labour Relations Officer

I am very pleased to announce the addition of Wesley Emerson to the TEAM office.

Wesley has specialized in the labour relations field for twenty-five years. After graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School and prior to articling with the Ontario Labour Relations Board, he worked for several years in public sector labour relations for the Ontario Government. Wesley became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1992.

During the course of his career, he served as Labour Relations Counsel for a large group of retirement homes, practiced labour and employment law as a sole practitioner and worked extensively in public sector labour and employment relations. In addition to acting as a chief spokesman in numerous rounds of collective bargaining with various unions in the public and private sector, Wesley has represented employers in an extensive number of grievance and arbitration cases. He has substantial hands-on experience interpreting collective agreements and solving complex labour and employment relations problems.

In 2007, Wesley graduated from the University of Leicester with an LL.M in Law and Employment Relations during which he wrote his dissertation “Strategic Choices in Public Sector Labour Relations: An Analysis of Legal Factors Affecting Government Choices in the Era of Restraint.” He is also a graduate of the Harvard Program on Negotiation’s “Negotiating the Labour Agreement Seminar”. In winter of 2012, Wesley developed and delivered “Collective Bargaining and Contract Administration” at Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba.

Prior to joining TEAM, Wesley was a Labour Relations officer with the Government of Manitoba, where he provided labour relations advice to Human Resources, Senior Executives and Line Management. He acted as Chief Negotiator during bargaining, provided counsel at grievances, arbitrations and classification appeals and undertook training and mentoring of other labour relations professionals.
