History of TEAM

TEAM was first organized as an Association in 1972, with the purpose of conveying the desires and concerns of managers to the Manitoba Telephone System through meaningful dialogue. By 1985, the majority of management employees decided a stronger voice was required for MTS to hear them. Consequently, with this majority, TEAM obtained certification from the Manitoba Labour Board in 1986 to be the bargaining unit for the management employees of the Manitoba Telephone System.

In September of 2003 the Canada Industrial Relations Board issued an order certifying TEAM as the Bargaining Agent for TEAM's unit of employees at MTS Communications Inc. This federal certification applies Canada-wide. MTS acquired Allstream, a national telecommunications organization, in 2004 to become MTS Allstream Inc. To meet the new challenges that this would undoubtedly bring, the management employees voted in July 2006 to affiliate with the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers. The IFPTE has proudly represented professionals for 90 years, having been officially recognised in 1918.
