A Labour Day Message From President Junemann August 29th 2014

Sisters and Brothers,

Labour Day in Canada and in the US marks different things for different people.  For most people, it's the last holiday of the summer, marking the beginning of cooler weather to come.  For some, it means back-to-school time.  For grid-iron fans, it's ... well, I could go on and on.

But for those of us in labour unions, it's our day.  It's our day to celebrate - to acknowledge - and to appreciate - our rights to join with our colleagues and peers in collective bargaining.

We celebrate our freedom to join with others and speak with a collective voice.  We celebrate our right to advocate for ourselves and for our co-workers.  We celebrate our ability to resolve workplace issues while working on an equal level with our management counterparts.  We celebrate our power to speak out on workplace issues without fear of reprisal or retaliation.  Lastly, we celebrate the freedom of other workers to join with us.

We use Labour Day to acknowledge and appreciate the work of all women and men, whether or not they're currently represented by a union.  We take our special day to extend a note of thanks to every person who clocks in, puts in a shift, and gives a part of themselves; all to make their employer, their communities, and our lives better.

Thanks to each of you for all you do.  Have a safe and Happy Labour Day.

In Solidarity,

Greg Junemann
